Standard Mitchell NC to Sony E-mount
(NEX) adapter

While the quality (or look?) of old Cookes, Astros and Baltars is not disputed, many over the years have been remounted into quite poorly engineered helicoids compared to the original NC mounts.
The NC lenses wider than 50mm were simple anstigmats and optically superior to the retrofocus designs needed for reflex cameras. While this means the NC optics and heliciods can reach up to 17mm behind the mounting flange, they can be neatly hidden by appropriate M4/3 or E-mount adapters, enabling the original lens mounts and heliciods to be used again.

Mitchell NC lenses: seems to me the position of the focus witness mark (and sometimes the position of the focus clamp) do occasionally vary from lens to lens. This is odd, as I would expect them to be consistent. On the Mitchell NC camera MOST of them mount with the lens clamp at the top (ie 12 o’clock looking from the front), and the focus witness mark 45 degrees to the right (at 1:30 o'clock, again looking from the front).
The adapter, however puts the witness mark at the top (because this is how we tend to use DSLRs, it makes the focus marks easier to see and the focus clamp is also a bit out of the way (45 deg to the left, close to the camera’s shutter button, as in the above photo).
Of course the mount allows you to put the lens in four positions, but just not with the clamp at the top and witness mark at 1:30 o’clock as on the “original” camera.
On the Mitchell NC, they only mount in one position, the bit that looks chopped off the rim of the mount matches up with the larger curve of the lens turret, and is at 3 o’clock looking from the front.

I have a limited number of custom made adapters avaliable, including tripod mount versions.
