Cannes 98

(Perennial) Party Awards:

Tuesday **** for Film Four, for the excellent set and not running out of booze.

Wednesday * the Troma Party, for the Longest and loudest self congratulatory speech, expensive drinks, running out of one-free-drink tickets, no food and pretending to be exclusive. If you wanted to network you couldn't have done better than the sales agent Stranger than Fiction's quiet party over-looking the Palais. If you wanted to dance you should have gone to the African party on the beach.

I thought Troma was an excellent party (give it another 2 stars from me). It must have got better when I arrived cuz the music was some of the best at Cannes and the dancing was wild. Apparently some beautiful woman gatecrashed the party by droppng my name - I'm on a mission to find out who it was...... Cheers -Elisar http://elisar.home.ml.org -We aim to be controversial -ed

Thursday MTV's Godzilla party: ** for the floor show but cold crepes and no Godzilla. It was nice outside - just as well: half the space was devoted to the VIP lounge (how many stars do you rate the VIP lounge? (over ** and we think you work for MTV)). AND minus a * for the free Pentax T-shirt (a nice touch to make you win one, giving them away would have been impossible). I mean no one, but no one, was wearing them the next day...

Friday **** and a 1/2*: Moving Pictures, undoubtedly the best venue of the Perennial Parties but loses 1/2* this year for not telling any one there would be no food of the gods or smorgasbord this time. Nor that the courtesy buses would stop at 4am. Otherwise as good as ever, and the Petit Majestic was still open at 5am for omelette and frits.

Saturday: and at least ** for the street party at the Petits Majestic and Carlton, guest: Eddy Izzard.

Best film: see http://www.festival-cannes.fr/

Best beach etc www.Cannes-on-line.com

Worst film: don't remember the name -but thanks to Desiree for waking me up and dragging me out of the Noga Hilton showing on Saturday night...

Worst hotel: Probably the Glycene again, the same colour scheme as the Pentax T-shirt.

Thanks to Peter Broderick for some new links in the US. viewaskew.com filmmag.com & Indiwire. And to Steve Smith for introducing us to Miss Tuesday, Miss Wednesday, Thursday etc., Kodak for their coffee and Fuji for the champagne.
